Supporting Children's Mental Health at Stithians School
At Stithians School, we believe that positive mental health is just as important as physical health. Creating a safe, nurturing and supportive environment helps our children develop confidence, resilience and the emotional skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
How We Support Mental Wellbeing
Emotional Literacy and Wellbeing Education
Through our curriculum, children learn about emotions, self-care, healthy relationships and the importance of looking after their mental wellbeing. We encourage pupils to recognise and talk about their feelings, helping them build emotional awareness from an early age.
Everyday Wellbeing Strategies
Our classrooms provide a range of supportive approaches to help children manage emotions and feel ready to learn. These may include reflection spaces, mindfulness activities, movement breaks and opportunities for open discussion through circle time and class check-ins.
A Whole-School Approach
Mental wellbeing is embedded throughout school life at Stithians. We are committed to fostering a culture where every child feels valued, respected and listened to. Our staff work together to create a positive environment that supports emotional wellbeing and promotes a sense of belonging.
Early Identification and Targeted Support
We understand that some children may need additional support from time to time. By working closely with families and external professionals, we can identify concerns early and provide appropriate interventions. Where needed, we can also signpost families to specialist services to ensure children receive the support that is right for them.
Working Together
We recognise that supporting children's mental health is a partnership between school, home and the wider community. By working together, we can help every child develop the confidence, resilience and wellbeing they need to reach their full potential.
